Here is a vintage Acu-Math 400 slide rule with the original case/scabbard but NO original instructions.
(You can download the scanned instructions from my photos on this listing. Click on the photo to make it big, then right click and choose "Save image as..." Then the page will be on your computer, probably in your downloads folder. If you prefer, send me a message and I'll e-mail the instructions to you.)
The case looks like leather, but I could be wrong.
The case is a bit scratched and stained with what looks like maybe a splotch of paint, and also a line of pencil.
The slider is chipped on the back as seen in the photo.
My dad was an industrial engineer for 3M way back when slide rules were still in use. He brought home the first calculator any of us had ever seen to show us how it worked. It had little red lights for numbers and it used so much juice, you had to plug it into the wall. Well, you COULD use batteries, but it drained them in about 1/2 hour. And you couldn't afford to buy batteries all the time because the calculator cost (I think) $400. Or maybe my dad just told us that because he didn't want anyone fooling around and breaking it. He still used a slide rule when he had to make calculations on the factory floor, but he sure liked the calculator in his office. That was when he had an office. It was no big deal - everyone had an office in those days. Then they got cubicles instead, and somebody stole his calculator, so there you go.
By the way, this is not my dad's old slide rule. I bought this one at a rummage sale.
Please send me any questions you may have, and thanks for looking.
